The Joy and pain of ‘small stones’.

This January I’m taking part in the River of Stones. This is an idea, set up by Fiona Robyn of Writing Our Way Home  where people – from all over the world – write a small stone every day in January.

The idea of the small stone is that you give a few moments each day to focus on something, to notice, to consider, to be aware of something in a very intense way. You then write about the something – in a notebook, on your blog, by posting on the Writing Our Way home blog, or wherever you feel comfortable with. Together, these small stones make the river of stones.

Half way through and I’m enjoying the challenge. But it’s much harder than I thought it would be. It sounds easy to focus, to concentrate on something, but it’s only when you try to do it that you realise just how difficult it is to still the mind’s chatter in order to concentrate. Difficult – but  rewarding.

And essential practice for a writer.

Do and have a look at my personal ‘river’ at and let me know what you think.
