Lindsay was born within the sound of Bow bells to an Irish mother and a Scottish father. Her childhood was one of contrasts. On Christmas mornings she and her sister went to Mass with their Catholic mother, and afterwards went to the grave of Karl Marx in Highgate cemetery with their atheist father.
Her ambition at seven was to be a ballet dancer or a writer. She failed the audition to The Royal Ballet School at eleven − in retrospect a very good thing! Boys, friends and homework took over from writing. After studying in Liverpool, she became a teacher. She taught English at a further education college, and wrote short stories and novels in her spare time. Instead of linen, she had pages of typescript in her bottom drawer.
In 2005 Lindsay left full-time teaching to do an MA in creative writing at Bath Spa University. Her novel ‘Unravelling’ was published in 2010, and she is now working on another ‘The Piano Player’s Son’. She also runs creative writing courses and workshops.
Lindsay lives in Worcestershire with her husband and has three grown up children.
